Agricultural water use efficiency to adapt climate change in Indo-Gangetic plains of south-east Asia

چکیده
Enhancing crop water productivity by genetic improvements or agronomic manipulations and reducing evapotranspiration losses from soil plant surface is the need of hour. Selection breeding traits which lead to increase in like early maturing stress tolerant cultivars with deep thick root system, hairy leaves partitioning assimilates towards grains etc. can help increasing productivity. Different management options like, alteration planting time, more efficient methods, tillage practices, irrigation management, intercropping, use anti-transpirants, row orientation, geometry application mulches shelter belts play important role for sustainability resources However, best option varies according location, prevailing weather conditions as well social economic farmers.

Assessment of impact of climate change on potato and potential adaptation gains in the Indo-Gangetic Plains of India
India is the second largest producer of potato in the world. The Indo-Gangeticplains (IGP) is the main potato growing region accounting for almost 85% of the1.8 Mha under the crop in India where it is grown as an irrigated crop during thewinter season. Since IGP is in sub-tropical plains, duration of the thermally suitablewindow is the main determinant limiting yields. Hence the impact of clima...
متن کاملDrinking water vulnerability to climate change and alternatives for adaptation in coastal South and South East Asia
Drinking water in much of Asia, particularly in coastal and rural settings, is provided by a variety of sources, which are widely distributed and frequently managed at an individual or local community level. Coastal and near-inland drinking water sources in South and South East (SSE) Asia are vulnerable to contamination by seawater, most dramatically from tropical cyclone induced storm surges. ...
متن کاملEffects of climate change on water use efficiency in rain-fed plants
Water use efficiency (WUE) reflects the coupling of the carbon and water cycles and is an effective integral trait for assessing the responses of vegetated ecosystems to climate change. In this study, field experiments were performed to examine leaf WUE (WUEleaf) in response to changes in CO2 concentration and other environmental variables, including soil moisture and air temperature. We al...
متن کاملVerification of a Rational Combination Approach for Agricultural Drought Assessment: A Case Study Over Indo-Gangetic Plains in India
Agricultural Drought is characterized by a deficient supply of moisture, resulting either from sub-normal rainfall, erratic rainfall distribution, or higher water with respect to a crop. In spite of technological developments in providing improved crop varieties and better management practices, in India, agriculture has been considered a gamble due to higher spatial and temporal variability. Th...
متن کاملFarmers' Attitudes Toward Agricultural Entrepreneurship to Adapt with the Impact of Climate Change and its Effective Factors
Climate change adaptation is generally defined as adjustments in natural or human systems in response to actual or expected climate stimuli or their effects which moderated harm or exploit opportunities (IPCC, 2007: 869). Agricultural entrepreneurship is identification process of opportunities and threads of activity environment with new policies to create transformation in agriculture. Therefo...
